Royal LePage agent Kevin Scott, a Nova Scotia-based agent and winner of the 2022 Royal LePage East Coast Rookie of the Year award, shares his advice for up-and-coming agents.

It’s important to recognize that it takes more than just yourself when navigating a new career. With a network over 20,000 strong, Royal LePage continues to be the largest national real estate company in Canada, presenting unprecedented opportunities to connect with and learn from experienced agents and brokers.

Don’t just take our word for it! 2022 Royal LePage East Coast Rookie of the Year award winner, Kevin Scott, found early success in his career, finishing in the top two per cent nationally, thanks to his willingness to find a learning opportunity in every peer interaction. Below, Kevin shares his advice for rookie agents looking to find the same success.

What’s one piece of advice you would share with a new agent looking to build a successful career?

Stay positive, confident and remain fearless. Look for learning opportunities in all your relationships and remember, it’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. The hard is what makes it great. Find yourself an amazing mentor within your brokerage who will bring value to your personal development and be instrumental in helping you grow your business. I was fortunate enough to have a mentor who not only recognized my potential and abilities, but gladly took my phone calls at all hours, day and night. She provided me with encouragement, guidance and advice that I was immediately able to implement into my business, helping me find early success.

What tools did you lean on when it came to navigating rapid success early on in your career?

The number one tool to navigate rapid success is being the best version of YOU! As an agent, you are your own marketing and sales team; you are your own brand within Royal LePage. Clients want to work with REALTORS® they connect with, trust, and enjoy being around. In order to make the buying or selling process fun, which makes for a positive experience during what can be a very emotional and stressful time, you need to be confident in being yourself. I treat every client like my best client, regardless of their budget. I love to be of service, keep the smile genuine, do everything to the highest standard, and action those values daily for my clients.

If you were chatting with an agent from a competing brand, what are the top three points you would highlight about choosing Royal LePage?

1. Highly professional brokerage with excellent support, training, and an amazing mentorship program.
2. Industry-leading technology from basic training to top-of-the-line client management.

3. Respected, Canadian-owned real estate brokerage with luxury branded division.
