Can you share a brief background on your career?
I started in real estate in July 1991, after working in construction and sales. I wanted a career that gave me flexibility while still allowing me to build something meaningful. Over the years, I’ve taken on leadership roles in organized real estate, serving as President of the Newfoundland & Labrador Association of REALTORS®, Chairperson of the Atlantic Commercial Council, and Director for the Canadian Real Estate Association.
While I’ve achieved many milestones, my proudest accomplishment is growing my career while raising my family. Real estate is demanding, but finding that balance has been one of my greatest successes.
What advice would you give to new agents in commercial real estate?
Build a strong network and never stop learning. Commercial real estate is highly technical, so formal training, like the CCIM designation, is invaluable. Joining business organizations and industry groups will also help you better understand who your clients are and what industries impact commercial transactions.
What are some of the toughest challenges you’ve faced, and how did you overcome them?
One of the biggest challenges in commercial real estate is navigating economic shifts. Understanding who your customers are and how market fluctuations impact the commercial market is crucial. I’ve overcome these challenges by staying ahead of trends, expanding my industry knowledge and maintaining strong client relationships.
What trends do you see shaping the future of commercial real estate in Canada?
This industry is evolving rapidly. Work-from-home models, new construction techniques and green energy solutions are reshaping demand for office and retail spaces. Businesses are adapting, and understanding how technology, sustainability and shifting workplace dynamics influence commercial real estate will be key to staying competitive.
How have Royal LePage’s tools helped refine your business approach?
The newest tool in Royal LePage’s roster, RLP InvestorsEdge™ is one of the best tools for commercial transactions as it provides critical insights for investors. Smart Leads™ is great for smaller commercial deals, however, nothing replaces in-person networking and building relationships. I also use TheAnalyst® PRO for analyzing and marketing high-tier properties and Youman Media for high-quality marketing materials.
How has new technology impacted and shaped commercial real estate?
Technology has revolutionized the industry by improving accuracy, efficiency and accessibility. From property evaluation and marketing to transaction management, today’s tools make it easier to research, analyze and promote commercial properties while saving time.
What does your routine for success look like?
I plan my days carefully, balancing education, work and community involvement. Mornings are for administrative tasks and client work, while midday is often spent on networking and charity efforts. I make it a point to incorporate continuous learning into my schedule, whether through online courses or in-person training.
How do you use social media to promote your business?
I leverage Facebook and LinkedIn to promote listings while maintaining a professional brand presence. My approach is to position myself as a problem solver, because when clients see you as a solution, they want to work with you.
If you were speaking to an agent from another brand, what would you say makes Royal LePage Commercial stand out?
Support, substance and reach. Royal LePage provides unmatched resources and a national network that makes it easier to connect with clients and industry professionals across Canada.
What sets you apart from others in your marketplace?
My ability to solve problems, deep understanding of commercial real estate, and strong industry connections. Clients work with me because they trust my expertise and know I can help them achieve their business goals.
Tell us about your best day as a commercial REALTOR®.
There have been many rewarding moments, but what truly makes my day is helping clients overcome challenges. Whether it’s navigating a complex transaction or assisting a business in securing the right property, knowing I’ve made a positive impact is what gives me a sense of pride.
