This Central Vancouver Island agent shares the mindset, habits and tools that helped her gain momentum, build trust and turn consistency into success.

Establishing yourself in real estate often takes time, but Ruby Youngman has proven that dedication and a client-first approach can accelerate success. Named as the Royal LePage® Rookie of the YearTM for the British Columbia region, an award that recognizes top-performing new agents, she has quickly made her mark in the industry.

Based in Parksville/Qualicum Beach, Ruby has rapidly expanded her business by staying visible in her community and leveraging the right tools to ensure her success. We had a conversation with Ruby where she shared what helped her gain momentum, the strategies that worked best, and her advice for new agents looking to do the same. Here’s what she had to say:

What has been the key to your growth in real estate?

Someone once gave me a valuable piece of advice: “No matter how hard the day is, always do one positive thing for your business.” That advice has always stuck with me. Small, consistent actions build momentum over time. Looking back, I can confidently say that showing up every day, even in small ways, has been the key to my growth.

How did you overcome the challenges of being new to the industry?

It took a lot of late nights and research. Fortunately, my managing broker was always available for guidance, which helped me refine my systems and build confidence. Over time, certain tasks became more seamless, and that’s when I really started gaining momentum.

What strategies did you implement early on that helped you establish yourself in your market?

I focused on three things: learning, consistency and relationships. I committed to doing at least one productive task daily, whether it be hosting a number of open houses a week or staying informed on the latest market trends. But the most important piece? Building strong client relationships. Those early connections I made still drive my business today.

What advice would you give to new agents who are looking to expand their business?

As hard as it may be at times, don’t give up – consistency is everything. Meet buyers and sellers weekly, whether through open houses, networking opportunities or outreach. The more you put yourself out there, the more relationships you open yourself up to, and that’s what ultimately creates long-term success.

How have technology tools and social media helped you build and streamline your business?

I leverage technology to keep me top-of-mind with clients. While I’m working on maintaining consistency, I’ve seen firsthand that regular posting on social media leads to real results. My goal is to get back to a steady rhythm to maximize engagement and keep growing my reach.

I also leverage tools like Royal LePage’s rlpSPHERE® and Smart Leads™ to keep me organized, and help to support my marketing efforts and connect me with buyer and seller leads. My brokerage’s weekly in-house business building sessions also provide valuable training, market insights and address frequently asked questions with current deals. And, we draw insights from prior transactions, applying those lessons to navigate future deals more effectively. With this support, I am able to stay ahead of trends and focus on delivering the best service to my clients.

What tactics did you lean on to generate leads and build confidence early on in your real estate career?

Hosting a minimum of four open houses a week allowed me to maximize face-to-face interactions. I also attended industry webinars to stay informed. As my confidence grew, I expanded into door knocking and online marketing to reach more potential clients.

Have you embraced any specific marketing strategies to stand out in a competitive industry?

Absolutely! I use brochures and door knocking to introduce new listings, and open houses have been a fantastic advertising tool, increasing my visibility in the community. Pairing this with targeted online marketing and social media engagement has helped me build credibility and trust with clients and prospects.

How do you manage to stay organized and on top of tasks while growing your business?

It’s a challenge, but I use slower weeks to reset and get ahead. Time management, checklists and scheduling tools help me stay on track. Staying proactive ensures I can provide the best service to my clients while keeping my business running efficiently.

How do you see your career evolving in the next five years?

I plan to grow my business through deeper community connections, refining my marketing strategies, and focusing on referrals. Long-term success comes from continuous learning and staying ahead of market trends, so that’s where I’ll be investing my time.

What has been your most rewarding moment as an agent?

It is so rewarding to help people navigate one of the biggest transactions of their lives with confidence. Whether it’s guiding first-time buyers, assisting sellers or helping clients downsize, seeing them feel supported and excited is what makes this career so fulfilling.
