From industry newcomer to Top 35 Under 35: William Campbell’s real estate journey

Halifax-Dartmouth real estate professional William Campbell built his career through persistence, authenticity and a commitment to showing up.

When William Campbell from Royal LePage® Atlantic Realty decided to pursue a career in real estate, he was just 19 years old and working in retail sales. At the time, the decision was driven by curiosity as much as ambition.

“I knew I was good at sales,” he says. “So I asked myself what would be the most entertaining and lucrative thing to sell.”

What began as a leap of faith quickly turned into a career he both enjoyed and excelled at. Today, Campbell is recognized as one of Royal LePage®’s Top 35 Under 35TM, a milestone that reflects more than a decade of dedication to his clients and his community in the Halifax-Dartmouth market.

Building credibility early on

Entering the industry at a young age meant Campbell had to address a challenge many early-career agents face: earning trust.

Instead of trying to hide his lack of experience, he chose transparency.

“I was upfront and honest with people about being new,” he explains. “I told them that even if I didn’t know the answer to every question, I would find it. And I promised I would outwork the more experienced agents.”

That willingness to be accountable, combined with a strong work ethic, helped him quickly build credibility. By consistently following through and staying focused on his clients’ needs, he established a reputation for reliability early in his career.

Turning early connections into future clients

When Campbell entered real estate in 2013, social media was only beginning to gain traction as a professional tool in the industry. Rather than using it purely for promotion, he approached it as a way to stay connected with people he already knew.

“I used social media more as a way to keep current with friends and family,” he says. “Just engaging with people and their lives was enough to stay top of mind.”

Having grown up locally also helped expand his network. Between attending two school districts and playing sports throughout his youth, Campbell already had strong ties within the community.

Many of those connections were not ready to buy homes at the time, but he understood the long-term value of maintaining relationships. By staying engaged, he built a database that would eventually grow into a steady stream of clients.

Today, while social media still plays a role, his focus is largely on nurturing those relationships and continuing to grow his network organically.

Adapting to every client

Campbell believes one of the most important skills in real estate is adaptability.

“People have different personalities and expectations,” he says. “If you’re struggling to understand what someone needs, it usually means you’re not asking enough questions.”

For him, the early conversations with clients are an opportunity to build trust and understand how each person prefers to communicate and make decisions.

That client-first mindset has helped him connect with a diverse range of buyers and sellers throughout his career.

Finding your own path in real estate

For new agents hoping to establish themselves in the industry, Campbell offers straightforward advice: show up.

“Consistently showing up and putting in the effort can go a long way in building a successful real estate business,” he says.

He also encourages young professionals to focus their energy strategically. Rather than trying every lead-generation tactic available, he recommends choosing four methods that feel natural and committing to them consistently.

Most importantly, he believes agents should find something that makes them stand out.

“Don’t just copy what everyone else is doing. Find one thing you can be exceptional at and make it your niche.”

Creating more balance through leadership

While Campbell once focused primarily on building his business, his priorities are evolving.

Today, he is increasingly focused on investing in the people around him – helping colleagues grow their careers while creating more balance in his own life.

“Now my focus is on quality of life and supporting the people around me so they can grow,” he says. “That allows me to create more time for my family.”

Still, one milestone stands out as particularly meaningful: being named as a Top 35 Under 35 agent.

“It was something I had my eye on when I was younger,” he says. “Hearing that I had won this year was a moment I’ll never forget.”
