Jerry Aulenbach of Royal LePage Noralta Real Estate in Edmonton, Alberta undertook his 2nd annual ‘Beards on Ice’ cross- country skating event, raising more than $7,000 for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation along the way.

Over the course of three months, Aulenbach visited twelve cities in six provinces to host skating events and celebratory dinners for participants.

“As I travelled from city to city, I had to overcome a number of logistical challenges in order to complete the tour, from snowstorms that made highway travel unsafe to unseasonably warm weather that affected ice conditions,” said Aulenbach.  “It was tempting to get frustrated and discouraged, and then I put it all into perspective. The reason I am doing this is because I want to help support those who have to make unwanted major life changes due to domestic violence. Changing plans on my tour was easy and of little consequence. Fleeing an abusive household is scary and difficult and has a lasting effect on all involved. Nobody should have to live in fear, and the programs and safe houses we support through the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation work tirelessly to that end.”

‘Beards on Ice’ has raised over $18,000 to date for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.
